Brazil Sugarcane Crushing May Rise By 5 Mln Tonnes; UNICA

BRAZIL:In the second half of March, mills in Brazil center-south region are expects to crushing approximately 5 million tonnes of sugarcane, nearly five times more than in the same period in 2022.

Market predictions of an early start to the Brazilian sugar season are supported by UNICA’s projection after record production of sugarcane by the support of weather, which cites favorable weather from late November to the present. In 2023 and 2024, Brazil’s center-south region is expected to produce close to a record amount of sugarcane.

The sugar season in Brazil officially begins in April, but mills begin processing earlier when the sugarcane crushing in the fields is ready and there are good chances for a large crop.

A report from UNICA stated that 24 mills were already in operation during the first half of March, crushing 608,000 tonnes of sugarcane, up from 142,000 tonnes the previous year.

The group anticipates that 36 additional mills would begin operations in the second half of March, bringing the total number of plants operating to 60, up from 25 during the same time last year.
