KAZAKHSTAN :According to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), wheat and barley production in Kazakhstan improved in 2022 and 2023, with both experiencing a 39% increase from the previous year.

With improved weather and precipitation, wheat production is estimated to be 16.4 million tonnes, the highest level since 2017-18. The estimated production of barley is 3.3 million tonnes.

The USDA projects that there will be 9.5 million tonnes of wheat and wheat flour exported in 2022 and 2023, which is a 7% increase from the previous year. This estimate is based on the strong demand from traditional export markets and the increased production of wheat.

The USDA predicts that 900,000 tonnes of barley will  exported, which is twice as much as the volume exported last year. The trader’s expectation that they will regain market share from Iran, Uzbekistan, and China is the source of this estimated increase.
