Petrol pumps in Punjab areas face up to fuel shortage

LAHORE: There has been a severe shortage of gasoline at several petrol stations in Punjab’s major and minor cities, causing motorists to stand in long lines to purchase the fuel.

The situation appears to be worse in some major cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad, where a number of gas stations have reportedly experienced a shortage of gasoline over the past few days as a result of oil marketing companies (OMCs) cutting back on supplies.

“Approximately 70 of the 450 pumps in Lahore are dry. According to Khawaja Atif, the secretary of information for the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association, who spoke with Dawn, the areas where the pumps are closed due to a lack of gasoline include Shahdra, Wagah, Litton Road, and Jain Mandar.

When asked about other cities, he stated that due to a lack of supplies from the OMCs, approximately 70% of the pumps in Gujranwala were empty of gasoline. In addition, many petrol pumps in Faisalabad, Okara, Sahiwal, and other districts are without fuel for several days.
However, Musadik Malik, Minister of State for Petroleum, asserted that there is no fuel shortage because gasoline and diesel stocks are available for 25 days and 20 days, respectively.
