Gold: Investors reexamined the outlook for US monetary policy on Thursday, which saw gold rates settle around $1,840 per ounce amid a slight decline in the dollar.
However, strong US economic data bolstered expectations that the Federal Reserve will need to keep raising interest rates in order to bring inflation down, which is why the metal is still close to its weakest levels in over five weeks.
The most recent data showed that in January, the annual rate of inflation in the United States slowed slightly to 6.4%, the lowest level since October 2021 but higher than market expectations of 6.2%.
Policymakers also largely supported additional rate increases in the most recent Fed commentary, with Richmond Fed President Barkin and Dallas Fed President Logan stressing the need for additional tightening in the event that inflation remains above the target.
