ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday that textile exports reached $10,039.743 million during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (2022-23).
Compared to exports of $10,933.059 million during the same period last year (July to January 2021-22), the textile exports during this time period showed a decrease of 8.17 percent.
Raw cotton was one of the textile products whose exports increased by 134.77 percent from $5.233 million to $12.286 million between July and January of this year (2022-23) and the same time last year.
Tents, canvas, and tarpaulin exports also increased by 13.44 percent, reaching $74.122 million from $65.339 million.
Cotton yarn was one of the textile products where trade declined, with exports falling 34.66 percent to $449.419 million from $687.857 million.
Similarly, exports of cotton cloth decreased by 9.34% to $1,225.348 million, from $1,351.532 million. yarn (other than cotton yarn) by 23.15%, from $34.031 million to $26.154 million, and cotton (carded or combed) by 41.18%, from $1.610 million to $0.947 million.
Knitwear saw a 2.93 percent increase from $2,887.880 million to $2,803.298 million, bed linens saw a 14.81 percent increase from $1,924.030 million to $1,639.103 million, and towels saw a 5.29 percent increase from $615.35 million to $582.833 million.
Additionally, ready-made garment exports decrease by 1.71 percent to $2,125.698 million from $2,162.627 million; from $262.519 million to $239.208 million, art, silk, and synthetic textiles by 8.88 percent; made-up goods by 11.41 percent, going from $491.091 million to $435.050 million. On the other hand, exports of all other textile materials fell by 3.98 percent, going from $443.955 million to $426.276 million.
In contrast, textile goods exports decreased by 14.83 percent year-over-year (YoY) in January 2023 to $ 1,321.768 million, from $ 1,551.890 million in January 2022.
According to PBS data, textile goods exports decreased by 2.53% month-over-month (MoM) in January 2022 compared to exports of $2 1,356.061 million in December 2022.
